From Orcades Hostel you can take a ferry to the Northern Isles or ride a bike to the Ring of Brodgar.

Orcades Hostel is in Kirkwall, the capital of Orkney.  Kirkwall is a great base for a tour of Orkney. It has the ferry port for boats ferries to Shetland, Aberdeen and the Northern Isles, and the hub of the bus network thought the mainland island of Orkney.  Orcades Hostel is close to the centre of Kirkwall so you can explore the shops, discover the medieval architecture of St. Magnus Cathedral, and Bishop’s Palaces and take a walk out in the evening to enjoy live music in the pubs.  Kirkwall is also a great base for exploring Orkney by bike and the hostel has secure cycle storage.  The island has had plenty of historic Norse visitors and there are  some great historical and archaeological sites within cycling distance, including the massive stone of the Ring of Brodgar,  the burial tom of Maeshowe and the prehistoric village of Skara Brae.
