Canterbury’s central role in Britain’s history is documented in the cathedral, Canterbury Roman Museum, the Canterbury Tales experience, but just wandering around the city will give you a real sense of time and place. It is only a short trip out to the seaside – the historic resort of Herne Bay or fishing boats huddled in Whitstable harbour or the bracing fishing villages of the south east coast. And let’s not forget the ‘Garden of England’ stuff – Kent’s rich lush countryside dotted with grand country homes.
