John Hunt Base

…If you’re looking for an adventure base, especially if you’ve struggled to find one with wheelchair access…

Hagg Farm is an outdoor Education centre run by Nottinghamshire County Council but based at Bamford in Derbyshire’s Hope Valley. The John Hunt Base within that is a self contained bunkhouse for families and groups. It is in the courtyard at Hagg Farm and is wheelchair accessible throughout.

The John Hunt Base is situated in the courtyard at Hagg Farm and has been refurbished so the whole of the base is wheelchair accessible. The attractive, self-contained unit accommodates up to 18 people in 2-person to 8-person bunk bedded rooms. The Base provides a lounge, TV/DVD, payphone, showers and toilets (adapted for disabled use), drying room, and fully equipped kitchen

The grounds are amazing – as well as a  picnic area, fire pit and a wildlife garden, there are also all sorts of adventurous facilities like bouldering and zip wires which can be tries by arrangement with the staff.  If your group is feeling adventurous then you can access the same activities as the groups who are brought here. On site that means climbing, zip wire, orienteering, bushcraft and various team challenges. While off-site it includes  caving, rock climbing, stream scrambling, abseiling and canoeing.

If you’re looking for an adventure base, especially if you’ve struggled to find one with wheelchair access, then investigate John Hunt.
