With only a short walk to the harbour, the weather was beautiful and expectations high – and although rather chilly out at sea, we were greeted with some truly stunning views!
The tour, complete with really interesting commentary, included a cruise around all the Farne Islands; viewing the sea birds on the cliff faces; visiting the Grey Seal colonies, following the route Grace Darling and her father took during their heroic rescue mission; before landing for an hour on Inner Farne.
This is the largest of the Farne Islands and in the Summer months becomes home to many thousands of nesting seabirds including my favourite, the Puffin. It has a fascinating history too being the home of St. Cuthbert with a small chapel dedicated to him. You can also see the Fishehouse which is all that remains of the Guest House which he built for his visitors; the lighthouse of course and the Pele Tower which was built to house monks who lived on the island.
A definite must – any visit to Seahouses Hostel would not be complete without a boat trip to the Farne Islands!
