Stay in a straw bale bunkhouse on an organic community run farm in Shropshire. Experience many aspects of the National Curriculum first hand.
Fordhall Farm on the edge of Market Drayton offers stimulating educational experiences for groups of all ages. The Discovery Team will bring to life many areas of the National Curriculum, including Science, PSHE, Geography, History, English, Art and Citizenship. Alternatively you can lead your own learning.
The many topics covered include:
Community land ownership
Pig rearing
Organic farming principals – even a bit of Foggage!
Habitat studies – streams, woodlands, wetlands, rivers, grasslands and hedgerow
Organic sheep and cow production
Free range chicken production
Ring and Bailey Castle studies
Local history – Fordhall was one of England’s first commercial yoghurt producers
Geographical river studies
Land use and woodland management
Food miles and local food production (in conjunction with a visit to our farm shop)
Mini-beast studies
Arts and creative crafts
The group facilities are improving constantly. There is a dry classroom and a brand new human pig-arc for indoor activities, a forest school area, a picnic area and of course, access to the fields, meadows and woodlands. Coach parking is available and there is a thought provoking compost loo (in addition to conventional toilets).
