Barmouth Bridge celebrates its 150th birthday with events and fireworks on the weekend of 14-15th October 2017
There are to be events held in Barmouth to celebrate the anniversary of the iconic Barmouth Bridge on the weekend of 14-15th October 2017. This iron and timber railway bridge has carried walkers, cyclists and local trains across the wide mouth of the stunning Mawddach estuary for 150 years. It is a key link in many of the welsh walking and cyclists routes including the Lon Las Cymru and the family friendly Mawddach Trail. A campaign is underway to provide a traffic free route from Barmouth Harbour and beach to join the bridge near the toll house. This would be the icing on the cakes for an already fabulous traffic free facility. Barmouth will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the iconic viaduct on the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th October 2017. There will be a train themed treasure hunt through the town. The Dragon Theatre will be showing the 1941 film ‘The Ghost Train’ and there will be displays of art, photographs, memorabilia and model railways of various gauges. As darkness falls on Saturday evening, there will be a themed laser and firework extravaganza on the harbour and bridge. Bunkorama Bunkhouse is a great base for a visit to Barmouth and the celebrations. Find out more on the Barmouth Bridge Facebook page.
