History Comes Alive here at Milden (and so does Nature and Environmental Conservation) for those wanting to earn badges here on our environmentally-friendly working farm. You can camp or stay in the 16th century listed Tudor Barn, learn archaeology techniques such as field walking and metal detecting and explore our growing museum, understand ancient buildings or learn about our motte and bailey castle monument. Alternatively, you can study and photograph nature – plants, insects, fungi and birds – in our ponds, woods and ancient meadows. Or explore the farm, hiking farm trails or learning to orienteer. There’s so much to discover!
Our small family team are here to help but, equally, can leave Scout Leaders to do their own thing. We’ve hosted and led a multi-award-winning Wildlife Watch group here on the farm for nine years. The Tudor Barn sleeps 25 and more if some want to camp or take the Old Brooder Bunkhouse (sleeps 22) too and there is plenty of room for large groups of c50 to feast and do other activities together! There are private rooms for leaders and larger communal rooms for children. We would love to welcome scouts here on this working farm and share what we’ve got to offer.
The farm is peacefully situated down a long farm drive away from the road. It is very rural but the nearest large village, Lavenham with shops, is only c3 miles away. We unpack a supermarket delivery free of charge ahead of arrival to help and can organise catering too.
