Since 1995 the Skye Bridge has made the island accessible to all, and since 2004 the toll has been scrapped, so now you can travel by road to a serine destination that is “still very much an island at heart”. The period of the toll bridge introduced the campaign of locals refusing to pay the fee, as several hundred were charged and some 130 convicted. Yet despite this, local life was much improved by the absense of hour long ferry delays, and connections to the modern world.
