… if your thoughts turn to winter sports…
Out of my window snow is falling in a picturesque dusting. The heroics highs and lows of the Winter Olympics has just finished on my television. I think its only natural that my thoughts should turn to winter sports. It is a fine coincidence then, that Gulabin Lodge in Glenshee should pop up on my radar.
Gulabin Lodge is beautifully located at the foot of mighty Beinn Gulabin and is the nearest accommodation to the Glenshee ski slopes. The lodge has under-floor heating throughout and two cosy lounges with log fires for those colder months. You can book beds in family rooms, twins, 4 and 6 person rooms or in a dorm. Check out the pictures on their website and you’ll see the ski lodge vibe of the hostel including open fires, plenty of pine and cool mezzanine sleeping platforms. Rather unusually a full board option is available, but I’ll bet that will let you concentrate on developing your skiing skills.
Not only is it an ideal location for downhill sliding in its many forms, but Gulabin Lodge provides Ski and Board lessons at the Glenshee Ski Centre, just down the road from the accommodation.
Glenshee Ski and Board School is run by the same people as Gulabin Lodge, opens in December with the first snow arrives and closes early April – so there’s still time to make full use of it! The School has nearly 40 qualified instructors all registered with the British Association of Ski Instructors (BASI) or Snow Sports Scotland. You can take lessons at Glenshee Ski and Board School to learn new skills, build up your confidence levels, try new techniques and have fun in the mountains then all pile back to the lodge for your full board hot meals and revel in those cosy log fires.
