Getting out there to explore the last wilderness in England.

The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty claims, and we think quite rightly, that it is the last wilderness in England. Carrshield Camping Barn is tucked away in a small valley making it a great location from with to explore the area.

Whether you explore on foot, cycle, motor bike or car, this area will amaze you with the quiet roads, peaceful landscapes and lack of queues to most locations. Your adventure may only take you along the side of the West Allen River that flows adjacent to our building, where you can enjoy this tranquil location with only the birds and water making any sound.
Alternatively, you may have more energy, in which case Cross Fell the highest summit in the Pennines is in walking distance. This would take you through old mining and quarrying areas as well as along beautiful river valley. The route takes you over the source of the River Tees and passed the source of the South Tyne River. |At approximately 30 miles it can be a full day’s walk/run or stay at Greg’s Hut bothy just below the summit.
For those who like to pit themselves against the hardy athletes there is the Greener Miles Running Ultra Marathon that goes along the 36 mile route of Isaac’s Tea Trail. Carrshield is conveniently located within this route again making it and ideal location as a base for participants and those who would like to watch. The even takes place on the first weekend in August, we stall have vacancies, but book early to avoid disappointment.
Our website contains information on less arduous walks and runs that can be done in the area, most directly from the door. Check our website for more information and book directly with us at no extra cost.
We look forward to seeing you.
