A n Eco-hostel which is brand new to the network.
Exmoor Bunkbarn appears to do exactly what it says on the tin. It is on Exmoor. The address says Bridgetown but it is quite a step from an urban centre. This is A Good Thing. An easy walk takes you to open country on Exmoor`s Winsford Hill. Nestling amongst what they claim is some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, it is also driving distance to attractions such as the Exmoor Pony Centre, Wimbleball Lake and Dunster Castle.
And yes, it is a bunkbarn. It is on a family run farm, Week Farm, of mixed livestock over 500 acres. Exmoor Bunkbarn has been converted from a granary and some machinery is still in place. There is accommodation for groups of up to 25 in 3 bunkrooms. An open plan kitchen, dining room is heated by a huge wood burning stove and all the wood- and stone-work is pleasingly intact. Also, drying room and shower rooms as you’ve come to expect.
If you explore the gallery on their website and on social media, though you’ll also see an element they are rightly proud of but isn’t highlighted in their name: Their Eco-credentials. They walk the recycling walk with reclaimed wood in the furniture and even a pitchfork curtain rail! The woodburner is fuelled by woodchip from their own land. I could go on…
I think it sounds cracking and, as one of the Independent Hostel’s newest members, you should write a review after you’ve stayed and spread the word.
