Roasting chestnuts over the campfire….yum! Shining Cliff hostel is located off-road, in the heart of Shining Cliff woods, an ancient woodland that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
There are many coppiced Chestnut trees in the woods, and quite a few on the half mile footpath from the private woodland car park to the hostel, and in the autumn time the path is littered with chestnuts that are perfect for roasting over the campfire in the stunning hostel fire pit area.
Shining Cliff hostel is open all year round, for sole use at weekends and either sole use or individual room bookings from Sunday to Thursday. We are also available for day hire from Tuesday- Thursdays, and it’s a great base for team building and wellbeing work days.
The woodland changes appearance all through the year, and Autumn time is when the woodland is a blaze of colour from the changing leaves, and when we have a glut of chestnuts on the ground! It’s a stunning place to stay and explore, with the Peak District National Park and Derwent Valley World Heritage Site on the doorstep if you wish to venture out of the beautiful woodland.
We also offer woodland wellbeing sessions for groups staying at the hostel, as we are Forest Bathing guides and Forest School practitioners. The hostel is also accredited as a Learning Outside the Classroom provider, so we are a great space for school and youth groups to stay and explore.
We’ve got just two weekends left available in November, the 15th & 16th, and the 22nd & 23rd, a perfect time for chestnut roasting!
