Corris Hostel formerly part of the YHA

The exterior of corris hostel filled with flowers

On Good Friday, 16th April 1992, Corris Youth Hostel re-opened to the public after a major refurbishment. First opened in 1962, the hostel had been gutted and as the first visitors were arriving, the workmen were leaving. There was a mutual meeting point where they shared a glass of wine.  The school building was 120 years old that year.

Independently owned and run since 1992, Corris Hostel left the YHA network in 2004.

Set in the Dyfi valley, elevated above the quirky, eco-friendly town of Machynlleth stands it has flourished under independent management as customers return year on year. One visit and you’ll be hooked too!

Corris hostel is a striking, former Victorian school with spacious rooms and high ceilings throughout. The communal areas are stuffed full of interesting artifacts and delights such as flowers, artwork, and crystals. Moon and crop calendars festoon the walls and there is a library and music corner at your disposal. Think of Corris hostel as a large, spiritual, family home with a revolving door of friendly guests. The secluded garden, filled with flowering, ponds and pathways, has space for BBQs, picnics, and campfire areas.

Corris hostel is an amazing place to stay. Perfect for first time and seasoned hostellers alike. It is family friendly as there is plenty for children to do at the hostel and in the surrounding area. Equally, the laid back, friendly nature of the hostel and its staff make it the perfect retreat for relaxation and reflection.
