The iconic Bretton Hostel has been refurbished after changing from YHA to Independent ownership. Read on to find out how it has changed
Bretton Hostel has always been a beloved hostel which is unsurprising considering the stunning views; it is perched on a ridge with 360 degree views of the beautiful Peak District. But while Bretton Hostel was under the YHA’s ownership, the interior did not match the amazing views. The decor was mostly brown and the views were blocked out by bulky window frames and wood clad walls.
Since the hostel became independent to the YHA, it has undergone a massive restoration and is virtually unrecongnisable. The same awesome views but the inside of the hostel has been totally updated. It now feels light and airy. The bathrooms and kitchen have been modernised and there is a separate studio making the living space more than adequate for a large group of guests. The living room still retains its wood burning stove so was really cosy after a hard days hiking out in the Peaks. The most stunning addition is the log studio in the grounds with large double glazed windows making you feel part of the landscape – perfect for group activities like yoga or meditation. The modernisation has been achieved sympathetically and with an environmental awareness with lots of eco friendly touches.
It really is a special hostel.
