At the start of the Great Glen Way
Fort William calls itself The Outdoor Capital of the UK. With a chuckle, I wonder if there are towns in The English Lakes or Snowdonia who’d like to challenge that! The Highlands of Scotland are certainly a great outdoor adventurous playground, and nestled at the foot of mighty Ben Nevis on the edge of sea loch, Fort William is in an enviable location.
For many who challenge themselves by walking the Great Glen Way, Fort William is their starting point. Bank Street Lodge in Fort William offers good value accommodation to these sorts of hardy explorers. Blessed with a proximity to the train station serving the West Highland Line (a train route well worth enjoying!) and loads of bus and coach links, it is an easy place to get to and to shoulder your pack and to walk from.
