Alfred Wainwright Exhibition

To all who know the Lake District, the name Alfred Wainwright is highly revered…

Although there were others before Alfred Wainwright to devise guides to the English Lake District, his were the first comprehensive handbooks to walking the fells. His seven guide books cover the main areas of the national park, and list a total of 214 summits, with detailed descriptions and beautifully hand drawn maps and pictures for all of these. It has now become a challenge to walk up each of these fells and there is even a society dedicated to those who have completed all the “Wainwrights”.
This fantastic exhibition at the newly refurbished Keswick Museum and Art Gallery is definitely worth a look. It is fun and informative, with hands-on exhibits for all and trails for families as well as plenty of original archive material and personal memorabilia.
