If you’re a Scout leader scrolling through hostel listings trying to work out where to take your troop this year, we want to save you some time. We’re Mount Cook Adventure Centre, tucked into the corner of the Peak District, and youth groups are exactly who we built this place for.
Mount Cook Adventure Centre built for groups who want to be outdoors, active, and slightly muddy by lunchtime. As a not-for-profit outdoor activity centre, our whole purpose is getting young people doing things, not just staying somewhere between activities.
Activities are our bread and butter. Our instructors run climbing, caving, archery and high ropes, all pitched at the right level for the group in front of them. We can build sessions around specific badge requirements, or just put together a weekend that’s about adventure for its own sake. Our team holds the qualifications and the local knowledge to run all of it safely on our own patch, so there’s less admin for you.
Our site is built for groups, not individuals. Dorms and group rooms rather than a scattering of doubles, so leaders can keep an eye on everyone without a floor plan headache. Communal spaces handle evening games, kit sorting and the inevitable card tournament. Our catering team feeds hungry groups three times a day and works around dietary needs without turning it into a project.
We take the paperwork seriously. Risk assessments, ratios, safeguarding checks, that’s the real work behind any Scout trip. We support leaders through all of it, with documentation and site information ready to go so you’re not chasing us for details a week before departure.
Location does a lot of the heavy lifting. Being based on the edge of the Peak District means proper hills, caves and rivers right on the doorstep, not a coach journey away. It’s easy to mix our on-site activities with a walk out into the countryside itself.
