Out on the eastern edge , in an often-overlooked corner is the Staffordshire stretch of The Peak District. Easily accessible from Leek and perched high up on the steep-sided Manifold valley, the 3 barns at Butterton are a great place to base yourself and explore this charming area.
There are three barns with a range of luxury levels:
🌟 The super cosy, self-catering cottage of Fenns Barn.
⭐The ‘glamping approach’ of Wills Barn.
✨ The traditional camping barn of Waterslacks.
Despite the differences in luxury, they all share the same stunning location and views as well as easy access to the local area. You can walk from the front door into the Manifold Valley and explore its crags and caves or cycle along the rewarding Manifold Valley Trail – one of those railway-lines-converted-into-bridleways.
The village of Butterton itself rewards the visitor with its pretty aspects and ford across the river. Casting out further afield are the familiar Peak District attractions of Chatsworth House, Alton Towers or the amazing walking in the White Peak, but do try to visit the lovely bustling Market town of Leek. It has retained much of its Victorian and Georgian character especially in the small shops gathered round its market square.
