The Viking Centre, Claxby is a low cost hostel with accommodation for up to 20 people set in the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The centre is situated in the village of Claxby and is within easy reach of Lincoln, Gainsborough, Scunthorpe and Grimsby. The perfect location for people wanting to take part in walking, cycling, field studies, outdoor pursuits, educational activities and conservation projects. With 20 beds over four 4 or 6 bed dorms and a well appointed kitchen as well as communal areas, the centre provides an ideal base for schools to do field work studies and outdoor pursuits. Popular with family groups, schools, scouts, guides, walkers, cycling groups and other organisations. It is ideal for groups wanting an educational and / or adventurous break deep in rural surroundings. Claxby village is 4 miles north of Market Rasen. From the South- Turn right off the A46 for Claxby. Follow this road through the village. The Viking Centre is on the right just after you have leave the village. From the North- Turn left off the A46 for Claxby. Follow this road and The Viking Centre is on the left as you approach the village.Public Transport :

The Viking centre is very proud of their Silver Green Tourism Award and now they are going for gold!
Here are some of the many ways they are going above and beyond to make their hostel as green as can be:
- Installing LED lighting with additional outside lights in the play area.
- Adding an Air Source Heat Pump to supplement the existing wood pellet boiler.
- Fitting 18 additional Solar panels with battery storage of the electricity produced.
- As a charity they also have a strong commitment to the local community


The Viking Centre provides great value accommodation at Claxby in the Lincolnshire Wolds. The 20 bed self catering centre has the tourist board “Walkers Welcome” award and its low overnight fee makes it economical to hire for small groups and large families. I first heard of the Lincolnshire Wolds as a member of the YHA, hearing talk of the iconic Woodys Top Youth Hostel. It took another 20 year to get around to visiting this quiet and beautiful area, by which time Woodys Top hostel had closed. However I soon found, hidden amidst the beautiful countryside, other remnants from the iconic era of rambling that founded the YHA.
