St John’s-in-the-Vale Camping Barn is adapted from an 18th century stable and hayloft, in an idyllic setting. Overlooking St John’s Beck, the peaceful hill farm has stunning views to Blencathra, Helvellyn and Castle Rock.
The Barn has a sleeping area upstairs (mattress provided) with a sitting and dining area below. Separate toilet, shower and cooking area (bring your own stove, cooking and eating equipment) are within the building. A wood-burning stove provides a focal point and warmth!
There is a BBQ and seating area outside and, as there is no light pollution, the star-filled night skies are magical. Northern Lights have been seen too! Low Bridge End Farm has a tea garden – all home baking.

Leave M6 at junction 40. Take A66 towards Keswick for 14 miles. Turn left onto B5322 St Johns-in-the-Vale Road. 3 miles along the road on the right.
Trains terminate at Windermere. From there take a 555 bus towards Keswick. Get off at Thirlmere Dam Road End (Smaithwaite). Climb over ladder stile and we are ½ mile north along a footpath.

Low Bridge End Farm have lots of baby lambs on the way
Low Bridge End Farm, home of the St John in the Vale Camping Barn, have just scanned their ewes and found there are lots of lambs on the way. Mostly twins and one set of triplets ! Book a night or two at the camping barn at the end of March and you are sure to see plenty of lambs in the spring sun. St John-in-the-Vale Camping barn is one of a group of Ex-YHA barns that work together as the Lakeland Barns network.
Popular Tea Garden in the Lakes has opened for the first time since the 2015 flood.
We’ve finally re opened the Tea Garden at Low Bridge End Farm in St Johns in the Vale, so things are nearing normality, just a load of fencing and walling to do now and lambing will be upon us before we blink. We have loads of space in St Johns in the Vale Camping Barn in January but weekends are filling for February . The weather is stunning and it’s like spring outside but not for long! We are due a hard frost tonight!! Its good to know that folk can get a hot drink and a home made cake in the Tea Garden once more.
After the devastating Lake District floods Low Bridge End Farm have a new bridge connecting them to the roads once more.
Access is now available to St Johns in the Vale Camping Barn at Low Bridge End Farm. Why not take this opportunity to stay in the camping barn or self catering cottage on this working Lakeland Farm. D of E groups are welcome to camp at the farm and the Tea Garden is open daily.
