Bunkhouse for groups near Hebden Bridge & Todmorden

Height Gate, built as a farm in the 17th century, sits just off the Pennine Way, high above the picturesque Calder Valley between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Within one hours drive of Manchester, Preston, Bradford and Leeds it is perfect for groups wanting to explore the South Pennines. The area is crisscrossed with mountain bike trails and footpaths, the pretty Rochdale Canal can be followed to either Todmorten or Hebden Bridge. Owned by the Woodcraft Folk, Height Gate is an unstaffed property that relies on its users, volunteers and a small team of staff to keep it clean and running smoothly.

Run on a groups-only basis, it sleeps up to 32 across 4 rooms. Extra guests can be accommodated on camp beds and in tents in the field. Please bring sleeping bags, pillows etc.

Facilities include a kitchen, well-equipped to cater for 32, with a large commercial 6-burner gas cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, kettles and plenty of pans, crockery, utensils and cutlery. There’s a communal lounge and a large indoor barn for activities. Currently, there is only one shower, more are planned to be installed in 2023.

Outside there’s a BBQ, fire pit, campfire area, a field for games or camping and parking for 8 cars.

Heating is provided by a wood pellet and multifuel stoves. A good supply of fuel is provided and included in the price and more can be ordered.

Please note, the single-track road to Height Gate is not suitable for cars with low ground clearance and has limited passing places. Guests are encouraged to car share and leave vehicles at the valley bottom.
