Bunkhouse for groups near Hebden Bridge & Todmorden

Height Gate, built as a farm in the 17th century and Grade II listed, sits just off the Pennine Way, high above the picturesque Calder Valley between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Within one hours drive of Manchester, Preston, Bradford and Leeds it is perfect for groups wanting to explore the South Pennines. The area is criss-crossed with mountain bike trails and footpaths, the pretty Rochdale Canal can be followed to either Todmorden or Hebden Bridge.

Owned by the Woodcraft Folk, Height Gate is a part time staffed property that relies on its users, volunteers and a small team of staff to keep it clean and running smoothly. Run on a sole use basis, it sleeps up to 32 across 4 rooms. Extra guests can be accommodated on camp beds and in tents in the field. With its large barn space, the centre is ideal for larger gatherings and celebrations. Please bring sleeping bags, pillows etc.

Facilities include a kitchen, well-equipped to cater for 32, with a large commercial 6-burner gas cooker, 2 fridges, freezer, microwave, toaster, kettles and plenty of pans, crockery, utensils and cutlery. There’s a communal lounge and a large indoor barn for activities. There is one shower that is situated in an accessible wet room and 2 blocks of toilets.

Outside there’s a fire pit, campfire area, a field for games or camping and parking for 8 cars.

Heating is provided by a wood pellet and multifuel stoves. A good supply of fuel is provided and included in the price.

Please note, the single-track road to Height Gate is not suitable for cars with low ground clearance and has limited passing places. Guests are encouraged to car share and leave vehicles at the valley bottom.

  • Directions:

    Turn off the A646 (Halifax to Todmordon road) and go down Stoodley Glen by the Masons Lodge. Follow the tarmac road over the canal to a gate at the bottom of the track. Continue uphill on the winding farm track, taking the fork to the right near the top until you reach Height Gate on your left.
  • Public Transport :

    Both Hebden Bridge and Todmorden have railway stations on the Manchester-Leeds line, and buses run regularly along the A646 between the two towns. Get off at the Eastwood bus stop. To reach Height Gate from the layby, walk in the Todmorden direction for about 125 metres, turn down Stoodley Glen then walk the same route as outlined in the vehicle directions.

House too small for all the family, want to get away with a group of friends? Why not book Height Gate, our large holiday property for your extended family or group to celebrate over the Christmas period. For that special time of year Height Gate is perfect for you and your group.

We definitely have room for all the family, we can sleep 32 spread over 4 rooms making us perfect for multiple families.

You’ll be able to enjoy cosy evenings in front of the wood pellet stove in our lounge, in the kitchen Santa hats will be optional with a large solid fuel stove blazing; cooking the Christmas dinner will be nice and toasty.

As for Christmas day, we have a huge lawn for the children/big kids to play with their new presents, if it’s raining, don’t worry we’ve got you covered quite literally in our massive barn.

Don’t forget Height Gate has a Fire Pit in the garden so you can make Xmas eve extra special for the little ones, can you imagine the memories you could make by toasting Marshmallows whilst keeping an eye out for Santa slay?

Location, location, location, with multiple country pubs in walking distance a trip to Stoodley Pike with a stop off at Top Brink Inn is a must for Boxing Day.

Why not stay a little longer and enjoy the sights and sounds of Hebden Bridge, with some fantastic independent shops, cafes and bars.
