OverviewSet in one of Callander’s oldest and most distinctive buildings, Callander Hostel offers private en-suite rooms where each bunk bed comes with a reading light, plug socket and USB charging ports. They also boast four brand new luxury glamping pods, one of which is fully disabled accessible and comes with a hoist. Each have their own beds, kitchen areas and bathrooms. Please note that the accessible pod needs to be booked directly and will only be let to customers with additional needs. The hostel includes a free parking area for guests and a garden with brilliant views across to the neighbouring Ben Ledi. Indoors, the hostel has a spacious lounge, free WIFI and a well-stocked kitchen although access to these areas might be restricted while Covid is around. Situated within Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Callander is often referred to as the “Gateway to the Highlands”. Unsurprisingly, it is an intersect point for a variety of tourist routes: multi-day walks (the Rob Roy Way); touring routes (Heart200) and National Cycle Route 7 (Glasgow to Inverness). The town has various amenities, such as supermarkets, cafés and a laundrette, yet still benefits from the beautiful rural setting. Cyclists and hikers are welcomed, with the hostel offering bike storage. The town is within easy driving distances (or in many cases, just a short walk from) numerous popular walks, hikes and other tourist attractions. Whilst staying at Callander Hostel, many guests hike up the nearby Ben Ledi or the stunning Ben A’an. There are easier local walks to the picturesque Bracklinn Falls or following the River Teith along short sections of the cycle path. Guests also enjoy visits to Blair Drummond Safari Park, Doune Castle (used in the filming of ‘Outlander’ and ‘Monty Python & the Holy Grail’), Go Ape Adventure Park and the Walter Scott Steamship on Loch Katrine. Towel hire is available. Both individual rooms and the main entrance operate with electronic locks. Callander Hostel is a social enterprise run by Callander Youth Project Trust (CYP). The hostel allows CYP to offer employability training and opportunities to young people from the local area, with the profits being re-invested in other CYP projects.
