In what manner you choose to relax is up to you. The Hostel accommodates for every type of traveler, a drying room for the adventurers and a cosy lounge for bookworms. A well equipped self catering kitchen means you can still cook your favourite meals. But of course the most important thing when on Orkney is exploring, the scenery alone being worth the trip. But for a bit more intrigue perhaps the ancient neolithic sites take your fancy, some dating back to over 5500 years ago. However as always what you get up to is up to you Birsay Outdoor Centre will just help you do it.

… visit Birsay to form the next layer of history.
Birsay was already steeped in ancient history when it became the centre of viking power in the days of Earl Thorfin of Saga fame. Otherwise known as “the Black” and “Thorfin the Mighty”, born in the Orkney Islands and burried at the ancient “Christchurch” which is now believed to be on the site of St. Mangus’ Church located one mile from Birsay Outdoor Centre!
St. Magnus is said to have been buried on the foundations where St. Magnus’ Church now stands. Each chapter of this little island’s history has left iconic landmarks to remind us of the rich heritage this peaceful farming area once had, including centuries later, when Earl Robert Stuart, bastard brother of King James V, built his palace here…. visit Birsay to form the next layer of history.
