Snowdon Lodge close to Porthmadog is an ideal base to enjoy this weekend of nostalgia.
This narrow gauge railway opened in 1836 with horses drawing the slate from the quarries at Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog. By 1865 steam engines were pulling the loads and Victorian tourists were enjoying the spectacular view along the journey. Tourists can still enjoy the journey today and on speacial occasions you can ride in the original steam trains with ornate Victorian carriages. Come and enjoy Porthmadog’s Victorian Weekend on 7-9th October and witness one of the longest gravity pulled trains in living memory.
