Once a month at Craig Y Nos Castle you can add a Friday evening of ghost hunting to your weekend break for just an extra £15 per head. If you are staying with a group of ten or more, perhaps at the Castles bunkhouse, the castle will arrange a dedicated ghost hunt on a date to suit you.

Gothic and austere, Craig Y Nos Castle certainly looks sinister. A bit of ‘googling’ before our group of 7 middle aged Mums left home revealed that it had featured on the TV ‘Most Haunted’ series. A famous opera singer had fallen and died at the castle and it had been a TB sanatorium when that deadly disease was rife . Suddenly what was supposed to be a fun weekend away from home had me worrying: ‘Would I ever sleep?’, ‘What if I saw a ghost?’, ‘How would I react?’, ‘Why did I ever agree to go?’.
My worries were unfounded. The ghost hunting evening was a not-to-be-forgotten experience, great value for money and it will be a topic of conversation among our group for many years to come.
Our 4 professional ghost hunters led about 20 guests by torchlight up to the derelict top 2 floors of the castle. We carefully picked our way from haunted room to haunted room. The castle had once been a TB hospital so we visited the old wards, then down dark and creaking staircases we descended into the basement, to the mortuary and the embalming room! Electronic ghost detectors were strategically placed, infrared cameras were in evidence and we took part in séances, used the Ouija board and the tipping table.
Did we see a ghost while ghost hunting ?……. Well that would be telling! The table really did tip, the glass on the Ouija board moved around and spelt out answers to various questions. But was someone pushing or was it for real? I am really not sure. What I am sure of is that everyone in our group slept like logs and the ghosts at Craig Y Nos Castle, just like the staff at Craig Y Nos Castle are very friendly indeed.
