Clyth Harbour on the John O'Groats Trail

John o’ Groats Trail is a 147-mile coastal walking route from Inverness to John o’ Groats, following shorelines, cliff tops, back lanes, and scenic footpaths through the breathtaking Scottish Highlands.

The trail is way-marked and is walked by thousands each year.  However, it’s still a work in progress. Some sections cross remote, challenging terrain or go along cliff tops, while others are popular with day walkers. It’s ideal for long-distance adventurers who enjoy exploring the coast on foot and experiencing the Highlands at a slower, more immersive pace.

This page highlights accommodation along the John o’ Groats Trail, focusing on walkers’ hostels—places where stories are shared, friendships are made, and the journey becomes memorable because of the people you meet along the way.
