From train to barn in 3.5 miles

Hope train station is the perfect starting point for your Crookstone Barn adventure! After exiting platform 2 straight into a field it’s (almost) nothing but open space and a steady walk on easy paths with stunning views across to The Great Ridge as you go

Trust volunteer Tim set out last weekend, with snow still on the ground and clear blue skies, on a walk that took about 1.5 hours. The path heads out across fields towards the hamlet of Aston with the craggy summit of Win Hill ahead. You briefly follow a small road (Free Range Lane) towards Edge Farm before heading off left on a muddy track (Ruin Edge Lane), curving round the lower slopes of Win Hill towards Wooler Knoll. It’s at this point that your destination comes into view – the little copse on the far hillside below the Kinder Plateau (see photo). From here it’s an easy walk following the old Roman road to Hope Cross with the barn straight ahead.
