Friends of Lockerbrook Farm gathered on Saturday to celebrate the centre’s 60th birthday. The derelict farm was taken on in 1964 by youth charity, the Woodcraft Folk to provide outdoor experiences for young people from the big cities.
Over the last 60 years Lockerbrook has hosted thousands of young people in it’s remote location with spectacular views. Volunteers and staff have helped to transform the old hill farm with it’s broken down barns and pig sty, where visitors camped in the garden and washed in the icy stream into a warm, modern group hostel which continues to welcome groups of all types (young and old). We host school groups, wellness groups, uni clubs and societies, friends and families and can offer self-catering or catered stays (with notice) and help you find suitable activities in the local area. You book the whole hostel and our nearest neighbours are a mile away, so it’s great for groups who value a bit of privacy.
