An area that is often missed by many the south of Northumberland within the North Pennines AONB has much to offer away from the crowded places. You can explore at your own speed, sometimes without seeing fellow explorers all day. We have walks and runs from the door, a long-distance path, museums, and vast open countryside., with Hadrian’s Wall is only a short distance away
Book a break at Carrshield Camping Barn to sleep in a Scheduled Ancient Monument that was once the largest Mine Shop in south Northumberland. Now giving you a chance to enjoy this peaceful area, all the pleasures of camping without the hassle of a tent. There are a series of walks, or runs, that will take you along the valleys or over the fells and moors. If you are up to the challenge Isaac’s Tea Trail long-dstance path goes through the village, a great way to see the area. Whichever you choose there will be wildlife to enjoy along the way from Curlew on the moors raising their young, or Dippers diving for food in the rivers and streams.
In the area there are plenty of other attractions if you wish to take life a little more leisurely, two mining museums and a steam railway, craft shops and cafes. Then finish the day by cooking on an open fire with the river running close by and birds singing as it gradually darkens, and the skies are lit by a myriad of stars.
