Elterwater Hostel

… a great base for exploring Lakeland…

Elterwater Hostel, is in the Lake District’s Langdale Valley. The village of Elterwater is lovely. Peaceful and far enough away from bustling Ambleside and Grasmere to miss the worst of the ‘madding crowd’. You can still access the Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter attractions there, but I imagine that you, like me, will be turning your eyes to The Langdales. Those iconic Lakeland peaks ragged and jagged, home to hidden tarns and far reaching vistas. Visit their website and you’ll see its replete with pictures tempting you into those mountains.

The hostel itself is in a converted stone farmhouse with all the Lakeland character you’d expect. Comfortable communal areas and clean, cosy bunkrooms are all as you’d expect. Imagine tumbling in, muddy and happily tired from your adventures – knowing your hot meal is being prepared and soft sofa is just there.  Your Independent Hostel team, Alice and Sam stayed there for the Keswick Mountain festival in 2017 and believe me, they could not speak highly enough of the hospitality they received!
