When we arrived we were greeted with a very warm welcome from Annie and shown to our room. The hostel has excellent facilities and a really great, homely atmosphere. There is lots to do within a close range from Comrie Croft – it even has it’s own cycle hire and mountain bike trails which we took advantage of almost immediately after arriving at the hostel (although may I add that these tracks are certainly not for the faint-hearted!) There are three different mountain bike trails that wind up and down – frightfully at times – but all of varying difficulty, meaning that less experienced cyclists will still be able to take advantage of the mountain bike trails. The facility offered to hire Mountain bikes from the hostel is a great convenience for those travelling light, offering an eco-friendly alternative to using public transport, as it would also be possible to cycle to Comrie or Crieff by road. A fishery and petting farm which would be perfect for children are both also very close by.
The town of Comrie, although small, is full of character and has a certain charm only found in certain places. The town itself caters for more than just essentials – a delicatessen, bakery and pub ensure that whatever your needs may be, you will be well catered for. Crieff and Perth also offer a wide range of things to do for those staying in the area for longer, from walking along the banks of the River Tay, to browsing through the quaint shops that are nestled in the streets of these towns.
We finished our stay with a quick coffee and scone at the tea room run by the hostel before visiting more of the surrounding area and seeing what else this lovely part of the country has to offer.
