Fame for Youlgreave Hostel

July 19th 2023

Colin Trigg, the new owner of Youlgreave Hostel has been in the news recently. He has been interviewed on Radio 4’s World at One (13 July) and BBC Breakfast (14 July). Why’s that you may ask? Well, he is a shining example of someone who has taken the plunge and bought a former YHA hostel.

This iconic hostel, housed in the village’s old Co-Op store, has undergone an extensive contemporary upgrade.  Part of the ground floor has been converted in to an artisan bakery & cafe, which to our knowledge makes it the only hostel in the country with an on-site craft bakery.  What a treat to wake up the the smell of freshly baked bread!

While continuing an association with the YHA via a franchise scheme, Youlgreave Hostel has now joined the ranks of the 320+ independent hostels in our network.

If you fancy exploring the wonderful Peak District, Youlgreave  Hostel is in a prime position.  Don’t delay, with all this publicity, rooms are sure to get booked up real fast.

Perfect – Quite perfect

July 6th 2023

That’s how our reviewer described this Peak District hostel. A former well-loved YHA hostel, Youlgreave Hostel is now under private ownership and has undergone an extensive contemporary upgrade. (En suites for every room is the next project). So why did this gem of a hostel deserve such a perfect rating?

Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts:  It’s situated in the heart of the Peak District with fabulous walking and cycling from the doorstep and climbing nearby.

Perfect for families:  All the attractions of the Peak District including Alton Towers, Chatsworth House and The Heights of Abraham are a short  drive  away

Perfect for wild swimmers:  the River Bradford (ranked no 1 in The Best Paddling and Swimming spots in the Peak District) is just 400m from the doorstep.  Hathersage and Matlock Bath lidos are both a short drive away.

Perfect if you want a rest from cooking: Although there is a self catering kitchen, you can take time out from chores and treat yourself to breakfast or lunch at the on-site cafe,  the hub of the hostel.  (Cafe open Weds – Sun 9am -2pm).  For evening meals it’s a short stroll to the village pub which serves home cooked meals every night except Tuesdays.

Perfect for the wallet:  Prices start from £23pp per night (based on 6 friends sharing a room).
