Deep in the Highlands, surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, lies Fort William, a mecca for those with a spirit of adventure. You can start (or end) the West Highland Way in Fort William, hike or bike along mountain trails, go for a boat trip on the sea loch or just take it easy amidst the wonderful scenery. Even in winter Fort William stays busy with skiing, snow-boarding, mountaineering and ice-climbing. Nestling on a hillside above the town, with wonderful views, this characterful and comfy hostel provides everything you'll need after a day in the hills. In the evening put your feet up in the elegant lounge in front of a real fire or stroll down to the choice of local pubs. Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, is just around the corner and below it is Glen Nevis, perhaps Scotland's prettiest glen, with wonderful waterfalls and ancient pine forest. Dramatic and eerie, Glencoe awaits a few miles away for an excellent day trip.

Warm hostel, happy guests by the fire

October 12th 2021

The highlands can get a bit chilly but fear not Fort Williams Backpackers is always toasty with their open fire chugging away. Just what cold and tired adventurers will need after a day in the open air.

It has to be said that if there’s any room to be described as the heart of the hostel, it must be the living room. Here you’ll find the fellow travellers huddled round the fire swapping stories and recovering from their own excursions. Where there’s a log burner, or open fire you’re sure to find happy guests nearby and Fort William is no exception.
