Celebrate the crisp and changing colours of Autumn with a stay at the DOWNHAM CAMPING BARN. This stone tent is a great weekend get-away for experienced or first time adventurers in to the landscape – and all without the need for canvas.
See Pendle in all it’s end of year glory from the doorway of this charming stone barn set in the heart of the National Landscape area. Known mainly for the infamous Lancashire witch trials, the area has far more to offer with a thriving market town in Clitheroe, traditional pubs, miles of routes for walking, cycling and riding and a Castle.
The barn offers basic accommodation for 12 with an upper sleeping loft. Downstairs there is a large gathering and cooking area with long table, bench seating and log burner with adjacent washing and toilet facilities, cold water only. Not on the grid or gas, LED battery powered lighting throughout guests need to bring everything usual for a camping experience without the complication of canvas.
Outside there is a fire pit, picnic bench seating . Bigger groups? there is room for tents around the barn.
Tranquility is the name of the game – so if you are looking for a place to rave, this is not the setting for you. As a gentle introduction to the great outdoors you couldn’t find a better place.
We have availability for weekends and during the week for the upcoming half term holidays. Also taking bookings for those looking to escape the usual Christmas / New Years Day routine.

A nip in the air around Downham Camping Barn
September 4th 2025
You can tell when the year is on the turn but we don’t look back at Downham Camping Barn because it has been a full on summer and the turning hedgerows and trees around the barn bring Autumnal cheer. It also makes us happy to have a stone tent rather than clingy, damp canvas to return to after a lovely day out walking and cycling, we are still hoping to welcome the first horseriders at some point.
Comfortably accommodating parties of 12, with sole use of this wonderful stone tent nestled in the shadow of Pendle Hill. Unimpeded views across the National Landscape Area with a daily changing vista of weather and the seasons. A weekend to remember, in an unforgettable landscape.
Over 2 floors the barn comprises of a large sleeping area on the second floor with kitchen area and separate WC & wash area on the ground floor. Log burner, long table and bench seating with lots of work tops make the kitchen a cosy, easy to use area whatever the weather.
Get away from the digital age for a day or two. LED lighting fed by battery, no charging sockets. Outside fire pit and picnic tables. Parking in adjacent layby off rural lane.
Well behaved dogs welcome by arrangement but the area is not dog proof and livestock graze the next door fields.
If you want a basic affordable escape to breath the air, slow down and relax – this just might be your place. Not for those looking for a wild night’s rave…..
