News & Offers from Browns Hostel and Houses

Browns Hostel has something for everyone…

February 13th 2022

Brown’s hostel is situated on the Orkney Islands; a string of 70 islands with an ancient heritage in the most northern part of the UK. Orkney can be spellbinding and welcoming, a visit is never forgotten. Brown’s hostel is ideally located close to Stromness waterfront – just a short walk from the Stromness ferry.

Browns Hostel is a great hostel for adult groups and children groups alike. Ensuite single and double bedrooms are available and you have the option to eat in using the self-catering amenities or eat out as the hostel is situated centrally.

Any type of group is welcome at Browns Hostel from walking groups, sea anglers, divers, cyclists and loch fishermen to school groups, students, swimmers, brownies, football and rugby groups.

There is an unending amount of things to do for visitor at Browns Hostel.

  • Visit The Ring of Brodgar. It’s the largest Neolithic standing stone circle in Scotland, it consists of twenty five stones and is more than three hundred and forty feet in diameter. There is a special celebration at the ring every spring equinox.
  • Visit Skara Brae. Another Neolithic structure near the beautiful beach of Bay of Skaill. It is one of the best preserved groups of prehistoric houses in Western Europe. Uncovered by a storm in 1850, the attraction presents a remarkable picture of life around 5,000 years ago.
  • Visit Yesnaby Cliffs. Stunning cliffs with unmissable rock formations.

Orkney can be thought of as the hub of the north sea, with links south to the Scottish mainland and north to the Northern Isles, Shetland, Iceland and Norway. Stromness is a charismatic town not to be missed on your Orkney adventures. Narrow stone flags streets, an amazingly informative museum and close to ancient stoneage sites. From the nearby ferry terminal you can travel to the Scottish mainland and the nearby islands of Graemsay and Hoy.

A week of Orcadian hospitality

February 18th 2015

Earlier in the year, at the start of June, I spent a highly enjoyable week in the Orkney Isles based at Browns Hostel’s and houses in Stromness, Orkney. I was there as part of a group booking with four other island enthusiasts. We were given exclusive use of the ground floor of the hostel and with a good kitchen/communal area, two toilets, an excellent shower and twin rooms it perfectly suited our requirements.
