News & Offers from Borth Youth Hostel

At Borth Hostel it’s all about taking the strain away from the teachers.

September 4th 2025

At Borth Youth Hostel, everything is geared towards taking the non-teaching load off teachers, so they can focus on delivering a relaxed educational experience. We provide risk assessments, paperwork and flexible, school-led planning — we ask what you need and work with you to make it happen. We’ve been supporting school groups for over 10 years, with many groups returning year after year.

Hosting Schools from Across the UK and the World

We regularly welcome school groups from all over the UK — and from further afield, including New Zealand, the USA, Germany, and France.

We accommodate students of all ages, from Year 2 to university level, for a wide range of educational and enrichment experiences:

  • Life skills and independence

  • Environmental awareness

  • Geography fieldwork (GCSE & A-level)

  • Marine biology

  • Sporting trips, outward bound activities, watersports, and Duke of Edinburgh groups

A Unique Outdoor Classroom

Located right on Borth Beach, the hostel offers a natural, immersive learning environment. The ancient petrified forest, revealed at low tide, provides unique opportunities for studying marine biology, coastal geography, and environmental science.

Flexible Facilities Designed for Schools

We pride ourselves on our flexibility and personalised support for each school. Every group is different, and we work hard to meet your unique requirements.

Facilities include:

  • Fully flexible catering options

  • Dedicated, self-contained spaces for even small groups — no supplement

  • The hostel is split into two halves, ideal for separating male/female students

  • Two large classrooms

  • Games room with pool table and table football

  • Picnic area

  • Large parking area suitable for coaches

We Make It Easy for Teachers

From risk assessments to flexible rooming and meals, we take care of the logistics — so you can concentrate on what you’re here to do.

Let us know what you need, and we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Opened in 1952 and still going strong!

April 20th 2022

Borth Youth Hostel in Cardigan Bay opened up as a YHA on Good Friday 1952. It was sold in July 2014 and continued to be run as an independent hostel under the YHA Enterprise scheme. Still to this day this lovely Edwardian house, right on the edge of the beach, is affiliated to the YHA.

Some more snippets of interesting information:  The building was originally two semi detached Edwardian Houses.  Orignially the hostel occupied just one of the houses. The neighbouring property was bought in 1970 and the hostel then expanded in to it.    A single storey Field Studies annex was built on to the back right around this time too.
