Walkers accommodation on the West Highland Way

Ben Lomond Bunkhouse is the perfect overnight stop on the West Highland Way, or a welcoming base for exploring the area and climbing Ben Lomond. You can book a single bed for the night online, or arrange exclusive use of the entire bunkhouse for your group by contacting the rangers by email or phone.

Set at the foot of Ben Lomond and just a short distance from the West Highland Way, the bunkhouse offers spacious, comfortable dorm-style rooms, a well-equipped dining kitchen, a large lounge with wood-burning stove, TV and Wi-Fi, hot showers, and an excellent drying room. It’s an ideal retreat after a rewarding day in the outdoors.

Operated by the National Trust for Scotland, all profits from the bunkhouse support vital path repairs and conservation work. From here you can enjoy scenic walks along the West Highland Way, north or south beside Loch Lomond, or take on the climb to the summit of Ben Lomond—a 6.5 km (4 mile) hike from the car park that typically takes 4–6 hours for the round trip.

Bed linen and towels are included. Bread for toast, butter, eggs and porridge oats for a do-it-yourself breakfast are included, as is tea, coffee, sugar and milk.

Next door, the ranger service office is a handy place for advice, and an honesty shop stocks a few essentials (as there are no grocery stores in Rowardennan). Dining options nearby close during the winter months, so if you’re walking the West Highland Way between November and March, ask the ranger in advance about arranging supplies.

Accommodation layout:

Upstairs: two bedrooms with 4 and 6 bunkbeds (generally used as male and female dorms), two shower rooms (both with WCs, one also with a bath).

Downstairs: a large dining kitchen with two ovens/hobs, a comfortable lounge with wood-burning stove, an additional WC, plus laundry and drying facilities.

Outside, guests can enjoy a stone firepit in the grounds. Dogs are welcome when the bunkhouse is booked for exclusive use.
