Remote barn in Dovedale offering budget accommodation

Located on a working farm near Alstonefield on the Derbyshire Staffordshire border, Alstonefield camping barn is near Dovedale, Hartington, Leek and Ashbourne. A perfect base to visit Alton Towers or spend the day exploring the wonderful Manifold Valley with a short climb up to the very popular Thor's Cave, then treat yourself at the nearby Wetton Mill Tearooms.

The barn stands in a meadow, off the beaten track, and has phenomenal views. It is great for quiet parties (but not stag and hen), friends get-togethers, team building events and has on numerous occasions been used as a small film location. The barn welcomes families, couples wanting to get away from it all and adventure groups.

The barn is close to Manifold and Tissington off road trails for cyclists, Ramshaw Rocks for climbers and for those who enjoy water sports it is a 20 minute drive from Carsington Water. Also ideal for walkers, schools, DofE and scouts. Perfect for star gazers!

This is camping in the comfort of a remote cosy barn. You need to bring usual camping equipment including camping mats or blow up air bed, sleeping bags, cooking stove and fuel, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. As there is no electricity, you will also need to bring torches and flat safety night/tea light candles and logs for the WOODBURNING STOVE.

Sorry no shower, but the washroom (with fully plumbed in toilet and hand wash basin) is in the barn itself so you do not have to venture outside to use the wc.

Parking on site. Pubs doing food within walking distance, around a mile.

Holiday cottages, sole use group camping (ideal for D of E), and glamping wagon also available at Gateham Grange. Visit Website for details.

Autumn in the Peak District is simply stunning and Gateham Grange, Nr Dovedale is perfectly placed for walking from door to dale.  Or if you prefer to get on your bike the Manifold Cycle Trail is just down the road.  Close by is the very popular Thor’s Cave in the Manifold Valley, a short trek up and once at the top you can go inside and explore further, then call in for well deserved refreshments at Wetton Mill Tearooms.  There is an abundance of fine country houses nearby:  Haddon Hall, Sudbury Hall and Museum of Childhood, Hardwick Hall, Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey and of course Christmas at Chatsworth starts on the 4th Nov to 7th Jan, book now for a magical time for children and adults too!

There’s still so much for all the family to look forward to this year with Lemurs, Meerkats, Penguins, Wallabies, Zebras, Otters etc as well as Polar Bears (Mother and her 2 young cubs) to visit at the Peak Wildlife Park, www.peakwildlifepark.co.uk.  Matlock Bath holds its Illuminations on Saturday and Sunday nights until 29th Oct and of course there is a spooky time to be had at Alton Towers Scarefest (7th, 8th & 13th to 31st Oct).  Also, check out their website for details of the Special Firework Display when the Park is open late and you can ride in the dark!  Family Fireworks Events & Displays | Alton Towers Resort

The amazing Peak District really does have something for everyone and so do we at Gateham Grange.  Our Camping Barn with cosy woodburning stove sleeps 2 to 12 persons (great for friends or families wanting a budget break and something a bit different off the beaten track, or couples just wanting to get away from it all).  It’s like camping but you don’t get wet. You can also bring your dog free of charge.  If you are wanting all home comforts we have some great offers on at the Coach House (Sleeps 2 to 6 persons) and our sole use pop up basic campsite (great for D of E Groups, Activity Groups etc and family and friends gatherings) is remaining open until the end of October this year.  What a treat to have a whole field to yourself, with only sheep for neighbours.
