… I think this sounds fascinating….
This bunkhouse has grabbed my interest!
Mill Cottage Bunkhouse is in Alston. I love Alston. Up on the high North Pennines AONB it has all the sturdy charm you’d expect from a hilltop town. The last time I was there the snow was thick on the ground and the nearby Ashgill Force waterfall was frozen solid into an ice cascade. Beautiful.
The Mill Cottage itself is one the smaller bunkhouses – accommodating 6 people in cool looking ‘ship’s bunks’ and with a well equipped open plan communal area downstairs.
But here’s what’s intriguing: also on the site is a the Nenthead mines, a historic site with education and fascinating open days to learn more about the areas industrial; past. It would be like staying in a living museum. Cool. As if that wasn’t enough there is a heritage hydro-electric scheme on site as well which still provides power to the area. I think this sounds fascinating.
