Hudscales Camping Barn

“…the loveliest place we have ever stayed…”

Hudsales Camping Barn, on Thornthwaite Farm near Kesket Newmarket in Cumbria, describes itself as simple accommodation. Sometimes camping barns remind us that they are ‘stone tents’ with only the most basic facilities. Hudscales offers more than that, with electricity, toilet facilities and a shower. You still have to bring your own bedding and cooking equipment but warmth is supplied by a lovely log burning stove and electric heaters.

But as they say on Channel 4, “Location, location, location.”

Hudscales Camping Barn is part of a group of traditional farm buildings, situated at 1000ft on the northern-most flank of the Lakeland Fells. It overlooks the villages of Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket and is in an ideal position for exploring the northern fells. It is situated right on the Cumbria Way. gathered round a drystone walled courtyard with the lakeland fells laid out on all sides. Skiddaw is just over there and Knott, and Blencathra, all with paths snaking up them ready to explore.

The location isn’t the only thing to be appreciated by visitors, though.

“This is the loveliest place we have ever stayed, we fell in love with the farm and mostly the family , what an extra treat, Jean and Claire go above and beyond to make you feel welcome , we immediately fell in love with the whole experience.”

“My favourite UK get away. Superb accommodation, can’t wait for next year!”

“What a beautiful place with the best hosts.”

As you can see, the friendly welcome is really valued too!
