The iconic Bretton Hostel has been refurbished after changing from YHA to Independent ownership. Read on to find out how it has changed
I first visited Bretton Bunkhouse about 5 years ago as part of a work team building weekend. My resounding memory of the place was the stunning views, perched as it is on a ridge with 360 degree views of the beautiful Peak District. Then secondly “Brown” – everything inside seems brown! From the window frames breaking up the views to the wood clad walls.
I returned this Autumn, for a weekend away with my netball team. Well what a transformation! The same awesome views but the inside of the bunk house has been totally updated. It now feels light and airy. The bathrooms and kitchen have been modernised and there is a separate studio making the living space more than adequate for a large group of guests. The living room still retains its wood burning stove so was really cosy after a hard days hiking out in the Peaks. The most stunning addition is the log studio in the grounds with large double glazed Windows making you feel part of the landscape – perfect for group activities like Yoga or meditation. The modernisation has been achieved sympathetically and with an environmental awareness with lots of eco friendly touches. We had a fantastic restful stay at Bretton – recommended for any group who wants somewhere to stay in the Peak District. Julie MorrisFind out more about Bretton Hostel
