Ushaw Historic House is situated in the rolling North East Countryside just 15 minutes away from Durham City Centre, with its famous castle, cathedral and university. The stunning house, beautiful gardens and acres of grounds provide the perfect setting for complete relaxation, reflection, peace and quiet. Designed by Pugin, the buildings and chapels will not disappoint! Ushaw House has 12 comfortable private ensuite rooms (6 single & 6 twin) on the first floor in the main building. There's a lift and all bathrooms are accessible. All towels and bed linen are included and complimentary tea/coffee and toiletries are provided. There's a small kitchenette for making breakfast/sandwiches, but no adjacent dining room or lounge. Catered packages are possible for groups. All guests can enjoy free access to the House and Chapels and the various communal areas during standard operating times throughout their stay. You are also invited to join the full and varied range of events and activities throughout the year. Please note note that some events will incur extra charges to attend.     SatNav Users: Please use DH7 7DW, which will bring you in the correct way. From the North: Leave the A1(M) at junction 63, Chester-Le-Street. Continue south on the A167 until you reach Crossgate Moor on the outskirts of Durham. Turn right at the first set of traffic lights just past the pedestrian footbridge. Ushaw is signposted from here. From the South: Leave the A1(M) at junction 59, north of Darlington, and continue north on the A167 (for approximately 14 miles) to the traffic lights at Neville's Cross on the outskirts of Durham City. Continue to the third set of traffic lights by Sainsbury's Local and turn left (Ushaw College is signposted here, 2 1/2 miles).

Whistle Stop Opera : The Magic Flute is suitable for the whole family. The historic grounds of Ushaw house setting the scene for this tale of a noble quest to save the climate.

Prince Tamino has fallen madly in love with the beautiful Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night. All appears well in the kingdom, but look closer and you’ll notice there’s something strange afoot in this mythical world…
Much to the confusion of bird-catcher Papageno, birds are disappearing. Animals are no longer coming out to hear Tamino’s music. The magical world of flutes and dancing bells is changing, and it’s up to Tamino to do something about it before it’s too late!

Ushaw Historic House is a real gem of a hostel. Surround yourself in gothic splendour, spectacular gardens and a 500 acre estate. The magnificent house and adjoining stupendous chapels were designed by renowned architect Augustus Pugin. There are 12 comfortable private rooms (6 single and 6 twin), a well equipped self catering kitchen and plenty of communal, relaxing space.

With free access to the gardens and chapels (normally charged) to all overnight guests and a short drive to the fascinating city of Durham, there will be plenty to keep you, your friends & family entertained. Any children in your group will love the outdoor ‘Fun and Games’ toys and activities in the Bounds field.   The final pleasant surprise will be the very reasonable prices!
