The Old Smithy camping barn was at one time the village fire station. This “stone-tent” is situated in the village of Burwardsley, Cheshire, mid-way along the Sandstone Trail, one of the finest long distance walks in North West England. The barn is also on NCN route 45 Mercian Way. The Old Smithy offers affordable country accommodation for up to 8 people. Ideal for families or groups of walkers, cyclists and others visiting this part of Cheshire or wanting to get closer to nature. There is an area for cooking & washing up, a toilet and an insulated sleeping platform. There is no electricity or hot water, nor beds. Bring your own sleeping bag and roll mat. Lighting is via lanterns (candles and matches provided). You can pre-order bacon and sausage sandwiches at an extra cost when booking. You can also pre-book or buy food and hot drinks at Burwardsley Post Office & Village Shop (5 min walk). The nearest pub is The Pheasant Inn. Also close by is the Candle Workshop, Cheshire Fishery and the Ice Cream Farm. Bikes can be locked away overnight.
