Individual Bookings at the Hostel in the Woods!
March 2nd 2024
Did you know you can book your own private room at Shining Cliff hostel from Sunday -Thursday?
We are uniquely situated in the heart of an ancient woodland and have no road access, so guests can arrive at Ambergate by train or bus and walk up through the woodland to the hostel, or arrive by car and wheelbarrow or carry your belongings for half a mile along stunning woodland footpaths from the car park to the hostel!
We have 5 rooms available, two 2-beds, a 4-bed and two 6-bed rooms, they all have bunk beds and there are 3 bathrooms with showers, an open plan lounge, dining room and well equipped self catering kitchen area. Outside the hostel are benches and picnic tables to sit and enjoy the birdsong, feel the breeze on your face, the sun warming your skin and to breathe the fresh, woodland air, it’s heavenly!
We do offer a room rate of £20 per person if you are travelling solo, otherwise we charge £40 for the 2-bed room, £80 for the 4 bed room and £120 for the 6-bed room per night. Often you might have the hostel to yourselves if there are no other bookings.
Springtime in the Woods!
February 24th 2024
Come and join us at Shining Cliff hostel this Spring to immerse yourselves in the joy of new leaves bursting from the branches, Bluebells poking their leaves through the soil, birdsong filling the woodland, it’s absolutely delightful!
We have 5 bedrooms accommodating up to 20 people, 3 bathrooms with showers, an open plan self catering kitchen, lounge and dining area, and 600 acres of ancient woodland surrounding us and a beautiful woodland fire pit area that nestles up against the cliff!
You can hire the entire hostel on Friday and Saturdays, or have sole use or individual room bookings from Sunday to Thursday. The hostel is located off-road, so no cars outside to disrupt the peace and quiet; the adventure starts as you wheelbarrow your belongings half a mile from the car park area to the hostel, or walk up through the woods from the train station at Ambergate.
We offer discounted rates to longer stays, smaller groups, if you arrive by train or bus and to charitable organisations on our midweek bookings. Shining Cliff hostel is unique, we love it, and are super proud of what it offers, come and find out for yourselves!

A Weekend in the Woods at Shining Cliff Hostel
March 9th 2013
Rather unseasonable for this year the first Saturday in March was a glorious warm cloud free day. The ancient woodlands where we spent the weekend gloried in the signs of spring already showing a hint of the Bluebells that will cover the understory in six weeks or so.
