Simple, budget accommodation on C2C routes

Formerly the oldest school in Westmorland (founded 400 years ago), Reagill Village Hall is now welcoming visitors to stay overnight. The tiny hamlet of Reagill in the Eden Valley has just 20 houses, no street lights, little traffic and wonderful dark skies for star gazing. Wildlife, including red squirrels and red deer, abounds. There are plenty of lovely walks from the doorstep, while Shap is 3 miles away, Appleby 10 miles and Penrith 12 miles.

Undergoing a gradual program of modernisation, Reagill Village Hall is community run and has a special place in the hearts of generations of villagers. Facilities include a kitchen with a new cooker, fridge and microwave. The brand new power shower ensures guests can enjoy a lovely hot and fierce shower after a busy day outside. There are a variety of heating options: overhead electric heaters on a meter, an open fire with coal and wood provided and two new multi stove heaters. Extra logs can be purchased at £5 per bag. You can be assured of a really warm and cosy stay. There’s one inside WC and another outside. Blow up beds for 4 adults and 2 children are provided, (1 double, 2 twin and 2 children's). Any additional guests may be able to bring sleeping mats and sleep on the floor, please discuss before booking. BYO bedding. Some bedding may be available if required, please enquire. There is a big lawn outside ideal to pitch a tent. The hall will only be let to one group at a time.

Situated 3 miles from Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk and closer to the C2C cycle route, Reagill Village Hall with its lockable cycle shed makes a perfect overnight stop. There is ample parking at the top of the lane on the grass verge and the Hall also makes an ideal stopover for people who are travelling up to Scotland from the south of England. It's so handy, just 10 minutes' drive from Junction 39 (Shap) on the M6.

If you don't want to cook after a busy day there are pubs serving evening meals in Crosby Ravensworth, Shap and Morland (all around 3 miles away). Shap has an amazing chip and pizza shop. And you'll also find lovely tea shops in Morland and Shap.

Another day 5 option. In the sleepy village of Reagill

May 9th 2022

A longer walk on day 5 of approx 19 miles from Patterdale will take you to a Reagill Village Hall. It’s about 3 miles from the C2C walking route at Shap. The accommodation here is more basic than most other places but that is reflected in the price.

There are blow-up beds to sleep on in the main village hall.  There’s a self-catering kitchen and fab power showers.  You will need to bring your own bedding.  A night here would make the perfect break from your tent if you are walking and camping along the route.

Guests love Reagill Village Hall

March 15th 2022

Since opening last summer, Reagill Village Hall in the Eden Valley has welcomed seen a steady flow of guests from all parts of the country to stay under it’s ancient rafters. Here is what some of them said when they left:
‘Thanks for a wonderful stay at the village hall, everything worked perfectly and I was very toasty through the night. Looking forward to coming again.’
‘Just a quick thank you for the stay in your 400 year old school. My brother and I like to try something different. ‘
And from a group that organised a James Bond themed birthday party: ‘Just a quick note, thank you for letting us stay, we had a great time’.
